The Jan 18 abduction and gang-rape of a young woman in this Punjab town got another twist Monday. The police here said the woman was out on bail in an attempt to murder case after she allegedly injected a married woman with HIV-infected blood last year.
The gang-rape victim, a nurse from Punjab's Moga district and in her early 20s, was admitted to a hospital here after she alleged that she was abducted Friday, gang-raped for two days and then dumped on the roadside near here Sunday.
The nurse alleged that she was also filmed by her attackers. She was found on the Bathinda-Dabwali road, 20 km from here, Sunday evening, a police official said, adding that some motorists informed them about her.
Doctors at the civil hospital here said that her medical examination showed that she was sexually assaulted.
But police officers said they were looking at other angles in this case as the nurse herself was out on bail in a case of attempt to murder registered against her and her lover, Sunil Kumar, for allegedly injecting his wife with HIV-infected blood in March last year.
"Sunil is still in jail while she was released on bail. The allegation against them (Sunil and the nurse) was that they tried to kill his wife after she refused to give him divorce. We are looking into all aspects," a senior police officer said here.
